When the time arrives you get one quite "ding" which you won't hear unless you're right next to it. Is now at the back of the cupboard and will most likely stay there until I move house.

Good mechanical timer which works. I note that some people do not seem to have read the limited instructions needed to use it and claim that it only worked once or the bell didn't work etc. So, please remember to turn the dial anti-clockwise the full 360 degrees and then turn back clockwise to the required duration - that is it is CLOCKWORK and you have to WIND IT UP each time you use it. This operates ex actly as the one on my range cooker but with the added advantage that I can position it where I can see it or even take it with me.

We chose this timer rather than all the dozens of others because it was a little more expensive. A previous, rubber egg-shaped, timer had fallen apart after about a month and inspection of the innards revealed very flimsy materials. This one, the Leifheit, appears to be far more robust. It seems that you do, indeed, get what you pay for. Working well so far, you do have to wind it all the way round before going back to the time you require. The instructions don't make that clear.

Dreadful. Bell is subject to its own will - goes off if it feels like it, rarely when it reaches zero.Tick continues after bell has gone - think of it as a case of premature ejaculation.Not to be trusted. Crap.

Just like the traditional timers, clicks loudly reminding you that you are timing something.I use it for studying and homework rather than food prep, it times a sprint 30/45 or 60 minute session. It helps me focus

Works fine. Only caveat is no instructions! Most of the things one buys have too many, including obvious health and safety details. However in this case it does not even tell you to wind it beyond the time you want, and then turn it back. However I got this information from other reviewers, so all is well.

Hardly ever managed to finish a period. Stopped at random points (and I wound all the way round first). I got a full refund. Got fed up with it undid the screw and dismantled it. Even though its only a self-contained timer mechanism and a screw and two plastic parts it completely stopped working when reassembled. Presumably now these are made in china the quality gone way down. The spring isn;t strong enough to overcome the inherent friction in the mechanism.
