The slicer works fine, but it is narrow and a typical onion or potato will not fit unless cut first. Also, I needed 1/4 inch slices and it will not go that wide. I only have storage room for a small slicer, and this is small, fits in a drawer, but that does limit it's utility.

I am sorry I told the people who make this I did not receive the fine blade, I was wrong it is in with the sliver. I do not need that blade and I love this product, I had one before but gave it yo my grand daughter. I could not find any other product to replace it so I order another one for me, The one I had before lasted more then fifteen years. Best product ever!!!

Sometimes I just want to make a few thin slices of something and pulling out my full-size mandoline is too much effort. This mandoline is easy to grab, easy to set the thickness (after a few uses), easy to use (as with any mandoline you need to watch those fingers!), easy to set aside and clean without taking a lot of space on my workspace, and stores easily (I keep it in the box to keep the sharp edges away from unsuspecting fingers). For those with mobility difficulties, the lack of a sturdy base may be a challenge. Otherwise, practice will give novices the confidence to manage the slicer like a pro in no time.

I have been cooking for 50 years without a mandolin and, now that I bought the Benriner Japanese Vegetable Slicer, I wonder why I denied myself such a valuable tool. It make slicing veggies a snap. It is super sharp and you cannot use it without paying attention to what you are doing but, after one tiny finger shaving, this has not been a problem for me.
